Located in Ngorongoro Conservations area in the Northern Tanzania, the Olduvai Gorge and Mysterious Shifting Sands are particularly sited on the way from Ngorongoro Crater to the Serengeti National Park. A little and softly narration about archaeologists from local guide, will clearly show how and the places are so special.

Olduvai Gorge, the world famous archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge, also known as the Cradle of Mankind. Olduvai holds a treasure chest of fossil spanning over five millions years. Major fossil findings include Australopithecus Zinjanthropus (Boisei). Australopithecus Afarensis (Like Lucy), and Homo habilis (tool guy/handyman). The “Laetoli were perfectly preserved in a rock bed miles from Olduvai. The distinctly show two upright bi-pedal hominids, out for a stroll more than 3.5 million years ago. An earliest remains were discovered here by Mary Leaky and anyone with an interest in mankind’s ancestors will be charmed by this extraordinary place. Explore the antiquated little museum and marvel at the jagged landscape. This paleoanthropological site in the eastern Serengeti Plain is a steep-sided ravine composed of two branches that have a combined. Deposits exposed in the sides of the gorge cover have yielded a treasure trove of fossil remains.

Mysterious Shifting Sands, a remarkable dune of a composed volcanic ash from Oldonyo-Lengai, is being blown slowly westwards across the plains, at the rate of about 17 meters per year, it can be found to the north of Oldupai Gorge. The local Maasai believe that the shifting originated from their most holy places-Ol Doinyo Lengai Mountain of God”. Interesting and extremely fascinating phenomena, these crescent-shaped dunes, created from volcanic ash, are formed when there’s ample dust on the ground and a unidirectional wind to create the shifting effect. Bunching around a rock, the volcanic ash continually gathers and forms what appears to be a small sand dune.
